Sierra Leone earned an impressive good governance profile with the successful peer review of the country at the 16th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM Forum) held on the 28th of January 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This momentous success was made possible by a number of national, continental and international actors including the steadfast political commitment clearly demonstrated by His Excellency the President, Dr Ernest Bia Koroma. Without this strong political resolve, it would have been very difficult for a successful APRM process in the country. Members of the APRM National Governing Council and the Secretariat worked tirelessly for a professionally oriented and technically competent APRM implementation process that eventually saw the peer review of the country.
The continued interest and active participation of Sierra Leoneans all over the country in the APRM process in commendable. The Government acknowledges with gratitude the dedication and hard work of the Lead Panelists, the team of 20 African experts who undertook the country review mission, the APR Secretariat as well as the support provided by the African Development Bank and United Nations Development Programme to the entire process.
APRM is considered an important intervention in Sierra Leone`s quest to consolidate and sustain democracy and peace. The successful implementation of the APRM NPOA is therefore seen as a national responsibility for all Sierra Leonean. Government is totally committed to supporting the implementation process and it urging all Sierra Leonean and development partners to join the reconstituted APRM National Governing Council in this important national effort. I also want to thank and recognize the outgoing NGC members for the invaluable part they played in the APRM process.
